This evening’s door was slightly trickier to get to, tucked away round the back of Mill Bay we visited Folkestone and District Mind; a wonderful and important charity that is nestled in the heart of Folkestone. As the door opened, we were greeted to a chorus of beautiful voices singing carols to us, accompanied by some brilliant and talented drummers. The space was so colourful and warm decorated by the wonderful workers at Mind and by the people who use their facilities, it was clear they worked so hard to create a memorable and festive event.
The choir was breath-taking and it felt so joyous to listen to them sing the carols but also to be able to join in – aided by song sheets which became extra helpful during ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’! It felt like a moment of real community spirit as we all sang and danced together, enjoying the festive music filling the room.
As we were leaving the wonderful people who use Minds’ facilities offered each member of the audience a home-made gift. These were created with the help of Nikki Tompsett, during a series of workshops that took place earlier on this month, each was hand made with love and care. I can’t wait to put mine on the Christmas tree!
This evening our performance was led by the people who use the facilities at Mind, volunteers and employees but was also helped by the Cheriton Warblers who travelled down to assist our singers and really made the choir feel complete. Thank you to all.
We are starting to come to the end of the Folkestone Advent Calendar 2019 and with only a few doors left it would be great if you could take a few minutes to fill out our survey. The Folkestone Living Advent Calendar can only continue to run every year with the help of funding and so feedback from our audiences is absolutely vital to ensure that we can come back next year! You can find the link to the survey below, alternatively you can ask a member of staff at any of our doors for a small paper copy which you can fill out and hand back to us at any time.
A big thank you and well done to Mind this evening! You have done the community proud, everyone who left tonight did so with a huge festive smile on their face. To our volunteers and all who helped out this evening thank you again!
