Christmas Eve! Wow what an amazing calendar we’ve had this year!
Our last door was located at St Mary & St Eanswythe’s Church. As the audience gathered for the last night, they were welcomed with mulled wine, mince pies and chocolates.
It was great to see the churchyard full to the brim with our familiar Folkestone folk and also many visitors too, from as far afield as the Netherlands. We also discovered one family has even been tuning into the live feed in New Zealand! What a treat to celebrate with our own Folkestone community but also to welcome in others from all over the world. It was also great to chat to people to find out what the Advent Calendar has meant to them – especially those stalwarts who have come out night after night whatever the weather to see every single performance. We love you!
As the door of the church opened at the final countdown at 6pm – the Church choir, looking for all the world like a traditional Christmas card, broke into song with ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’. The audience joined in with a selection of favourite carols. We’d like to say a big Thank You to St Mary & St Eanswythe’s Church for hosting our Christmas Eve door and helping to bring this year’s Living Advent Calendar to a close in such a delightful and traditional way.
Was it all over? Not quite. A surprise announcement was made that we’d had a message all the way from Lapland! Sure enough a video was projected onto the church of Father Christmas himself wishing the people of Folkestone a Very Merry Christmas. A real Christmas treat especially for us from snowy Lapland.
The final collection of this year’s Advent Calendar was for our friends at KRAN, the Kent Refugee Action Network. We’ve really enjoyed working with them this year and you can find more information about what they do below.
We’ve had a truly incredible Living Advent Calendar this year and it’s time to say some really big ‘thank you’s’.
So THANK YOU
To our funders –
The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund
Folkestone & Hythe District Council
Thank you to our performers, photographers, artists, technicians, venues, hosts, videographers, friends and family members and everyone who has supported us behind the scenes to help create the most beautiful and entertaining doors every night. Not to mention those who have helped document every single event!
To all our charities and volunteers who have collected money and who’ve helped steward our audiences and keep everybody safe this year.
A big thank you to our own Mother Christmas – Lucy Freeman – who’s bought an inimitable touch of Christmas magic and sparkle to every Advent Door!
And finally, a huge thank you to everyone who attended this year, whether it was one door or all twenty-four. Without you we wouldn’t be able to make this event happen.
So a Merry Christmas to everyone and a very Happy New Year!
See you next Christmas!
Jim Jam Arts.
